Those tiny lashes, soft curls and curled-up fingers change in days. My newborn sessions are calm, baby-led and safety-first so you can simply exhale and enjoy watching your little one being photographed. I’m Sarah, the photographer behind Sarah Louise Photography in Bury, Greater Manchester. With a background in early years education and more than a decade working with babies and children aged 0–5, I bring patience, gentle handling and a soothing pace to every photoshoot.
The newborn stage is beautifully fleeting. A professional session preserves the details you’ll want to remember forever: the way they tuck their chin, their tiny toes, the sleepy smiles.
My style is soft and timeless, using neutral tones and simple, elegant styling so your baby is always the focus. Sessions are relaxed and unhurried; I follow your baby’s cues, keep them comfortable and warm, and never force a pose.
Most parents book during pregnancy, often just after the 20-week scan, to make sure a space is set aside around their due date. We pencil in your due date and confirm the actual time and day as soon as your baby arrives. The ideal age for a newborn photoshoot in Westhoughton is typically 5–21 days, when babies are sleepier and naturally curl into those classic newborn positions.
If you’re a little later (four, six, even eight weeks) please don’t worry. Older newborns are welcome and we simply adapt the session to capture beautiful awake expressions and cosy family images. If your little one is already past the newborn stage, you might also enjoy my Baby Milestones
Expect a peaceful couple of hours. Newborn sessions usually run for two to three hours to allow plenty of time for feeding, changing and cuddles.
My warm, cosy Westhoughton studio has comfortable seating and refreshments so you can relax while I work gently with your baby. I provide hand-made wraps, bonnets, headbands and carefully chosen props, and we’ll talk beforehand about colours and any keepsakes you’d like to include.
I’ll photograph a mix of wrapped poses, simple portraits and little detail close-ups, and (if you’d like) some tender images with parents and siblings. Safety is at the heart of everything I do: I move slowly, support your baby at all times and stop the moment they need a break.
Before we meet, we’ll have a quick chat to plan the look and answer your questions. On the day you’ll have full use of the studio and all outfits and props. After your session I’ll carefully edit your images and invite you back around two weeks later for a relaxed viewing and ordering appointment where you can choose your favourites.
To secure your newborn photoshoot appointment, there’s a £50 session fee. This reserves time around your due date and covers your consultation, studio time, editing and your viewing appointment. You choose a package once you’ve seen your gallery, no pressure and no hard sell.

Yes. Safety and comfort come first. I use gentle, supportive posing, never force positions and follow your baby’s lead throughout.
Awake images are gorgeous. We keep the studio warm and soothing, work patiently, and take breaks whenever your baby needs one.
Absolutely. Parent and sibling portraits are included and often become family favourites.
I provide everything for baby. For family images, simple neutral clothing photographs best: creams, soft greys and beiges without heavy patterns or logos.
